Our Guide To British Cheese
Delve into Village Maid and Neil’s Yard
Handpicked British cheeses from small individual dairy farms specifically chosen for their consistency and quality.
A hearty Scottish Cheddar with a firm, fondant-like texture that tends to be slightly more compact then the other Cheddars we sell. Flavours range from juicy and zesty to boozy and deeply savoury. Clothbound with lard.
Recommended wine: Adobe Merlot by Emiliana Organico
This organic Merlot is juicy and fresh, with bright plum and red cherry flavours, subtle black pepper notes and a soft, fruity finish. A touch of oak adds complexity, making it a perfect match for soft or semi-hard cheeses.
A striking, nettle-wrapped cheese whose delicately earthy rind gives way to a buttery breakdown and crumbly cores, with notes of lemon and yoghurt.
Recommended Chutney: The Fine Cheese Co. Damon Fruit For Cheese
A sweet and powerful pairing for rich, soft cheeses, damson (a type of plum) complements Brie de Meaux or Camembert beautifully.
A semi-soft washed cows milk cheese. The rind is washed with Treason IPA from Uprising Brewery in Windsor which promote a tangy, punchy flavour with buttery texture.
Recommended Wine: Bacchus Block by Lyme Bay Winery
Block 2022 is a premium 100% Bacchus, hand-harvested in late September 2022. The grapes were gently crushed and macerated on the skins for 6 hours, creating a richer, more intense wine with vibrant aromas of gooseberry, pineapple, lime, and blackcurrant leaf, plus a smooth, fresh finish.
A beautiful disc-shaped goat’s cheese with an ash rind and a smooth lemony, bright white interior; it is loosely modelled on the French cheese Selles-sur-Cher.
Recommended Mead: Lyme Bay Winery Christmas Mead
This Christmas Mead is traditional, rich, smooth honey mead blended with festive spice. The classic Christmas mead includes spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom sitting on top of lemon, orange zest and, of course, honey-courtesy of mead.
Barkham Blue
Made in an ammonite shaped round, the deep yellow moist interior is spread with dark blue-green veins. It has a rich blue taste, smooth buttery texture with a melt in the mouth flavour, without the harshness associated with some blue cheese.
Recommended Cracker: Toast from Cheese Cherries, Almond and Linseeds by The Fine Cheese Company
These crackers are wonderfully light, thin and crisp, each cracker is packed with around 55% of fruits, nuts, and seeds, they’re bursting with flavour – fruity, nutty and just a little bit seedy. Perfect for pairing with rich blue cheeses, they add a delicious crunch to your cheeseboard.
